The Arts and Culture Committee is up and running. You may already have seen the junction box covered in a pop art style of golf balls at the corner of Egypt Road and School Lane. Now, as the Board of Commissioners’ liaison to the committee, I am excited to announce an afternoon performance by singers from the Academy of Vocal Arts (AVA). These very talented young men and women from around the world will sing a variety of opera and show tunes.

The concert is Sunday, February 5 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ascension United Church of Christ, 1700 West Main Street in West Norriton. The $5 admission fee will be donated to the church which is providing its sanctuary at no cost to the Township – many thanks to the Reverend Dwayne Mosier.

The entire program was put together by committee member Mary Treisbach with support from the committee which includes residents John Holohan and Sue Devenny.

As described on their website “The Academy of Vocal Arts is the world’s premier institution for training young artists to become international opera soloists.

“Through rigorous instruction and coaching, and by presentations of Resident Artists from around the world in concerts, oratorios, public programs and fully staged professional opera productions, AVA will train artists with the high potential for career success while enriching lives in Philadelphia and beyond.

“Gifted singers come from throughout the world to seek the exceptional guidance and training that AVA offers. Admission is determined by competitive annual auditions.”

We hope many residents will come out and join for what promises to be a delightful afternoon of music.

Sewer Bills

Sewer rental bills are based on your water consumption that we receive from the water company. Bills are mailed quarterly (January 1, April 1, July 1 & October 1). Payment is due within 30 days. This payment should be made payable to West Norriton Township. You may also sign up for online payments through Xpress Bill Pay. Just go to our web page (www.westnorritontwp.org) and under the Sewer department, you can find the link to Xpress and set up your account.

A 10 percent penalty will be imposed on all sewer rental payments owed to West Norriton Sewer Department that are outstanding for more than thirty (30) days. Interest shall be applied to the outstanding principal balance each month it goes unpaid. This interest will not be applied to penalty/interest charges.

Private Meter: To receive consideration for a waiver of the sewer charges for filling a pool, you need to have a private meter installed. Once installed. please contact the Township Sewer office for information on how to monitor the related water consumption.

Curbside Tree Limb Pickup

Collection takes place the Third Tuesday of each month April through September.

Branches must be placed at the curbside for pick-up on the third Tuesday of each month by 10:00 a.m. Only branches and limbs are allowed. Tree stumps, weeds, holly bushes, grass & leaves will NOT be taken. Tree limbs must not be in plastic bags or tied with metal wire.

Limits:

Individual branches can be no larger than six inches in diameter & six feet long
Total collection per household is limited to two cubic yards (six trash cans)
Improperly prepared materials will not be collected including large piles.

Environmental Advisory Council Corner

Don’t Flush Disinfecting Wipes

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) advises people to not flush disinfecting wipes down the toilet. These wipes should be disposed of in the trash instead. Disinfecting wipes (even those advertised as “flushable” do not break down and can cause household plumbing clogs as well as backups in the wastewater collection system. These wipes have caused numerous problems in wastewater treatment processes by causing damage to pipes, pumps, and other equipment. Damage to the wastewater collection system is costly to residents since this equipment is expensive to replace. This damage can also result in sewage backups and overflows, causing environmental issues.

In households using on-lot septic systems, flushed wipes accumulate in the septic tank, harden into a concrete-like substance and at times need to be removed using a jackhammer. This causes damage to the septic system, resulting in costly repairs to the homeowner.

So, no matter how your wipes are labelled, do not flush them down the toilet. EPA recommends only flushing toilet paper.

SILVER CIRCLE (Senior Club)
The Silver Circle (Our 55+ Club) meets the third Wednesday of each month, September through June, at Jefferson Fire Company’s Hall. 85 School Lane, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Membership fee is $10.00 per year, with charges for special events. Fee for guests - $3.00 per meeting, unless otherwise specified. Registration may be required for certain events. Look for a new and exciting events schedule in 2023. Members are invited to bring a snack to share at meetings. ALL seniors are welcome!

NORRITON LITTLE LEAGUE

PLAYBALL!

With more than 70 years of continuous history, Norriton Little League is West Norriton Township’s only avenue for Little League Baseball. Baseball divisions are offered for boys and girls between the ages of 4 and 12 who either reside or attend a school within our boundaries.
