Fatal Apartment Fire Under Investigation in West Norriton Township
West Norriton Township officials confirm that a fatal apartment fire occurred on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at approximately 8:43 a.m., at the Westover Village Apartments, located at 6 Meadow Lane.
Jefferson Fire Company was dispatched to the scene for a reported building fire. Upon arrival, first-due units observed smoke showing from the structure with reports of a possible occupant trapped inside. Fire crews from Jefferson Fire Company and the Norristown Fire Department immediately made entry into the apartment, extinguished the fire, and conducted a rescue of the occupant.
Despite these lifesaving efforts, the occupant—a 69-year-old female resident—succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation by the West Norriton Township Fire Marshal, in cooperation with the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal’s Office. At this time, the cause of the fire has been determined to be undetermined.
“This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the victim’s family,” said Fire Marshal Michael Valyo. “The investigation remains ongoing, and while the fire has been extinguished, the cause has not yet been determined. We will continue to work closely with the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal’s Office to complete a thorough investigation.”
