[ARCHIVED] Winter Storm Preparedness Notice

Snow Emergency

Winter Storm Preparedness Notice

West Norriton Township is closely monitoring weather forecasts for a potential winter storm expected this weekend. While forecasts can change, residents are encouraged to prepare in advance and remain aware of Township snow-removal and parking regulations.

Snow Emergency Declarations

If forecasted snowfall totals or storm conditions warrant, West Norriton Township may declare a Snow Emergency in advance of the storm. Snow Emergencies are typically declared when three (3) inches or more of snow are expected.

During a declared Snow Emergency:

  • Parking is prohibited on all designated Snow Emergency Routes until the roads are plowed curb-to-curb.

  • Vehicles parked in violation of a Snow Emergency may be ticketed and/or towed.

  • Parking in cul-de-sacs is not permitted during a Snow Emergency, as it restricts plowing operations and access for emergency vehicles.

A list of Snow Emergency Routes and additional details are available here:

Snow Removal Operations

The Township’s Public Works Department follows a priority-based snow removal plan:

  • Primary and emergency routes are treated and plowed first.

  • Residential streets are addressed once priority roads are passable.

  • State roads are maintained by PennDOT, though Township crews may assist as conditions allow.

Residents can review the Township’s snow removal procedures here:

Resident Responsibilities

Residents can assist snow removal efforts by:

  • Parking vehicles off the street when snow is forecasted. Any storm over 3 inches requires the use of off-street parking. Cars can be ticketed or towed.

  • Clearing sidewalks within 24 hours after snowfall ends as a courtesy to your neighbors. (The Township does not have an ordinance requiring removal of snow from sidewalks.)

  • Keeping fire hydrants clear of snow and ice.

  • Ensuring mailboxes are properly positioned and accessible.

The Township will continue to provide updates as conditions develop. Residents are encouraged to monitor the Township website and official communication channels for Snow Emergency declarations and operational updates.
