Tips
The West Norriton Police Department offers the following tips to hopefully lessen the probability of a resident becoming a victim of crime. This is not a complete list; however, it will assist in developing a personal safety plan:
- Vary your daily routine
- Leave a key to your residence with a trusted neighbor
- Register your house alarm
- Do not stop daily newspaper or mail delivery while on vacation - have a relative or neighbor pick it up
- Solicitors are required to register with the township and display a township issued permit. If you are unsure if they are legitimate, ask to see their permit
- The elderly are often victims of scam artists. If your neighbor is elderly, keep an eye on them
- Report suspicious vehicles, circumstances and/or persons immediately
- Do not leave valuables in your vehicle
- Lock your vehicles at all times
- Secure any firearms
- Contact the police department when going away on vacation
- Maintain landscaping so as not to obstruct windows and doors
- Shred documents with personal information on them
- Do not provide personal information over the phone unless you have initiated the call
- Check your credit report at least one time per year
- If you think you are being followed, call 911 and get to a public place
- Be familiar with your surroundings
- Develop an emergency action plan in case of an emergency
- If you are the victim of a crime, report it to the police as soon as possible
